Looking Out for Each Other on the Bus - Our Common Courtesy Campaign

6 months ago Thu 18th Dec 2025

Plymouth Citybus have launched a new Common Courtesy campaign to encourage considerate behaviour on board its bus services.

The campaign has been developed directly in response to passenger feedback, including requests for clearer on-board reminders particularly on the new electric buses  to help improve comfort and the overall travel experience for customers.

Common Courtesy focuses on a series of simple, everyday actions that help promote respect for fellow passengers and the bus environment. Key messages include:

  • Bags don’t need a seat – Everyone deserves a comfortable journey, so passengers are encouraged to keep bags on their lap or on the floor.
  • Feet off the seats – Keeping feet on the floor helps maintain cleanliness and ensures seats remain pleasant for the next passenger.
  • Your safety is our priority – Passengers are reminded not to stand on the upper deck or on the stairs while the bus is moving.
  • Take the vape off the bus – E-cigarettes and vapes are not permitted on board.
  • Paws on floors – Dogs are welcome but should remain on the floor and be kept on a lead to ensure all passengers feel comfortable.

The Common Courtesy messages are being rolled out across the network via on-board posters, digital screens and social media, providing friendly reminders designed to support a more enjoyable journey for all.

A spokesperson for Go South West said:
“Small gestures can make a big difference. Whether it’s keeping bags off seats, not vaping on board, or making sure pets are properly supervised, these simple actions help keep our buses safe, clean and welcoming. Common Courtesy is about reminding everyone that we all play a role in creating a positive travel experience.”

With millions of journeys made each year, Plymouth Citybus hopes the Common Courtesy campaign shows how customer feedback helps shape improvements across the network and supports a more enjoyable experience for everyone who travels by bus.
