Bus Service Changes – Effective 26 October 2025

We will be introducing a number of timetable changes across our network from Sunday 26 October 2025. Key highlights include a significant uplift on the 42 service, providing more frequent buses between two of the busiest areas in the city, Plymouth City Centre and Derriford, as well as improvements to services 21/21A, offering extra journeys in school holidays. The updated schedules are outlined below.
Service by Service Updates
- Running times revised across all days.
- Weekday afternoon journeys, including schooldays, have additional time to help buses stay on schedule.
- On Saturdays, extra time starts earlier in the day but finishes slightly earlier than at present.
- Sundays see extra running time, including for the first journey from Sherford.
- Most journeys now depart Derrys Cross a couple of minutes earlier.
- School-day afternoon timetable revised for improved reliability, in line with services 43 and 50.
- New Service 16A, funded through Plymouth City Council’s BSIP scheme, will run hourly between Kings Tamerton and St Budeaux Square, Monday to Friday.
- Additional running time in the morning peak to improve reliability.
- Extra morning journeys now start from Royal Parade towards Devonport.
- Saturday morning timetable adjusted for better timekeeping.
- During school holidays, frequency increased from every 15 minutes to every 10, providing more opportunities to travel.
- Withdrawn from Brest Road due to very low usage.
- Timetable revised to improve reliability, with inbound journeys retimed to avoid Mayflower Street congestion.
- Revised to start and finish at Derriford Hospital.
- Extension to George Park & Ride withdrawn; passengers can change at Derriford onto the improved 42 group, with buses up to every 15 minutes between Derriford and George Park & Ride.
- Services now leave Union Street up to five minutes earlier.
- Major timetable changes with a new Service 42B running up to every 30 minutes between Plymouth City Centre and Roborough Roundabout via Derriford Hospital and George Junction.
- Direct buses between City Centre and Derriford Hospital every 7–8 minutes Monday to Friday, every 10 minutes Saturday, and every 15 minutes Sunday and Bank Holidays.
- Services between Derriford Hospital and George Park & Ride operate exactly every 15 minutes in both directions, with more journeys during the morning peak.
- Existing Service 42B renumbered 42D.
- Timetable revised to improve timekeeping.
- First early morning journey on weekdays adjusted to improve connections.
- Weekday peak services revised for reliability.
- Services now leave Union Street up to five minutes earlier.
- Running times revised across all days.
- Weekday adjustments:
- Service 50: redistributed running time between City Centre and St Budeaux in the afternoons.
- Services 50 and 51: retimed weekday morning departures for a better spread and improved timekeeping.
- Service 51: major weekday afternoon revisions to improve reliability.
- Sunday adjustments:
- Service 50: slightly earlier morning journeys and evening journeys now serve Parkway Industrial Estate. The 18:32 journey from Derriford becomes 18:26 with an additional six minutes to complete the trip.
- Service 51: minor adjustments to balance journey times in both directions.
- Services now leave Union Street up to five minutes earlier.
- Peak-time schedules revised during school holidays.
- 08:45 Milehouse to Transit Way journey operates on school holiday mornings only.
Services with No Changes
Services 8/9, 20, 20A, 23, 24, 25, 33, 35/35A, 36 remain unchanged.
These updates take effect from Sunday 26 October 2025. The 42 service uplift provides significantly more buses between the City Centre and Derriford, while services 21/21A have increased frequency in school holidays, giving passengers more opportunities to travel.
