Plymouth Citybus Supports This Years’ Breakwater Swim

Plymouth Citybus are delighted to be supporting The Chestnut Appeal for Men's Health annual Breakwater swim which took place on Sunday 27th September.

200 swimmers took on the 4km swim in what turned out to be the most challenging Breakwater swim to date.

David Squires of the Chestnut Appeal said, ‘conditions were tough out by the Breakwater as the wind really picked up.  But these were seasoned swimmers and once past the Cardinal buoy the sea calmed and flattened off’.

The Breakwater swim is the charities main fundraiser of the year, with donations and fundraising helping to make a real positive difference to the community.

Plymouth Citybus have sponsored the breakwater Swim for the past two years and entered its own swim team into this years’ Drakes Island and Breakwater swims.

The Plymouth Citybus team includes experienced swimmers and some who have entered the challenge due to a personal link to men’s cancers or who want to face up to a significant challenge. One of the swim team members, Carolyn Giles, Head of People & Operations at Plymouth Citybus, is also the Chair of the Chestnut Appeal and believes passionately that by doing this challenge it has encouraged conversations around the company about men’s health and particularly men’s cancers, so donating is actively encouraged but awareness raising is just as important to the company and the charity. Plymouth Citybus is very proud to be associated with a cause that is linked directly to some of our colleagues and can provide the support they have needed during treatment.

The Chestnut Appeal for Men's Health is launching a pioneering pilot project with Riverford Organic, giving men who are newly diagnosed with prostate cancer free veg boxes and a cookery book to set them on a healthier journey, helping to eat well during cancer treatments.

David Squires said, ‘the Chestnut Appeal would like to thank CityBus for their continued support and for sponsoring the 2020 Breakwater swim.’

To Celebrate the 2020 Breakwater swim artist Brian Pollard has produced a print with all profits to The Chestnut Appeal.  The Breakwater swim print is sized 30cm x 30cm and is limited to 200 copies, each will be signed and numbered by Brian and cost £40.00 each.
