New Travel Centre marks start of post-Covid recovery for Plymouth Citybus

Local celebrity David Fitzgerald and Cllr Drean have officially opened Plymouth Citybus’ revamped, refurbished Travel Centre on Plymouth’s Royal Parade, marking the start of the local bus services provider’s recovery following Covid restrictions.
The Travel Centre on Royal Parade closed over lockdown to keep passengers and staff safe, and Plymouth Citybus took the opportunity to update the Travel Centre so it’s more accessible for passengers.
Ruth Quick, Travel Centre Manager at Plymouth Citybus said: “When we first opened the Travel Centre in 2014, we simply made the best of the fittings that had been left behind from the previous shop such as the flooring and counters. This refurbishment has given us the chance to create something purposefully designed to work for us.
“It should make everything more accessible for customers, and generally improve the experience they have with us.”
Plymouth Citybus has recently announced its new timetables, coming into effect from 5th September, which have been updated to reflect the increased demand now that more of us are getting back to ‘normal.’
Selected routes through Efford, Eggbuckland, Crownhill and Woolwell now have extra journeys and Plymouth Citybus has also been working with the NHS’s Lighthouse Laboratory, extending routes and adding extra journeys to accommodate staff needing to travel from the new Estover site to Derriford Hospital.
Some of the routes crossing the Tamar have also been updated, with extra journeys for service 12 from Plymouth to Bude, and the 172 taking the place of the 72 and including Crafthole.
On opening the Travel Shop, Cllr Jonathan Drean, Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways at Plymouth City Council said, "It is perfect timing for Plymouth Citybus to open its new refreshed Travel Centre. The start of the new school year and timetable revisions coming in on the 5th September, passengers are now able to pick up paper timetables, buy tickets and ask questions face to face".
The Royal Parade Travel Centre is open Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm and Saturdays 9am-4pm. The latest timetable information is available on the Plymouth Citybus website, via the Plymouth Citybus app and in paper format from the Travel Centre.
