What to do when you get on the bus

To use your key on the bus all you have to do is place it on the reader at the front of the bus where you see this symbol and use it as you would normally use your freedom card.

It will beep and show you a green light which confirms that your ticket is valid for travel. You can then take a seat as usual.

The screen on the reader will display the type of ticket you have used. This will also show you when your ticket will expire.

For your security and assurance, our payment systems use market leading, counter fraud services and encryption technology to keep your payments and personal information secure.

Your new smart card product will load onto your key the day after you buy it. This is to allow our buses to receive this information overnight. Later in the year we hope to be able make this almost imediate.

You don’t have to wait for your product to expire before buying a new one. The next one will start automatically once your old one has expired.

The cheapest and easiest way to buy season tickets for your key is online via our website.

From our website you will be able to manage your key. Here you can top up your card, check the tickets loaded onto it or view your journey history. Our new on line facilities should be ready by spring 2011

For your security and assurance any personal information we hold in relation to your key, including your online key account, is protected using the latest encryption technology and is in line with the latest data protection law making sure your personal information is secure.

By either calling our travel centre 0845 077 2223 Monday to Saturday between the hours of 09:30 and 18:00. You will also be able to find out details of the tickets loaded onto your key by logging into your key account via our website 24 hours a day.
