Plymouth Citybus History

Plymouth Citybus is a subsidaryof the Go-Ahead Group. We joined the group on 1st December 2009. The company was previously owned by Plymouth City Council.

Plymouth Citybus employs nearly 500 full time and part time staff with a wide range of disciplines.

The core activity is the provision of local bus services within the urban area of Plymouth. As the major operator, the red and white Citybus vehicles operate approximately three quarters of the intensive bus service network.

A small number of local bus services and school contracts are provided through successful tender on behalf of Devon County Council, Cornwall County Council and Plymouth City Council.

The network is serviced by a fleet of 160 buses comprising of 24 Double Decks, 33 normal height midi-buses and 27 minibuses. 76 are to Low floor easy access ‘SuperRider’ specification.

Plymouth Citybus pursues a policy of environmental improvements in both its workshop site in Milehouse and the emission levels of its vehicles. All vehicles operate on Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel fuel whilst new vehicle intakes comply with the latest emission levels.

Since January 2005 Plymouth Citybus has invested over £1.5 million on vehicles.

Policies of continuous investment, ongoing staff training and infrastructure partnerships with the local authorities are instrumental in underpinning the continued success of the company.
