Ten of the latest state of the art Volvo Euro 5 low emission single deck buses have entered service on the 43 service between City Centre to Ernesettle following a £1.6 million investment by Plymouth Citybus. Managing Director Andrew Wickham said that the comfortable 41 seat Eclipse 2 buses, based with their distinctively large digital destination displays, have replaced older buses on their fleet.
“This is the largest single order for buses in Plymouth for at least 5 years and demonstrates the Go Ahead Group’s long term commitment to our customers. The vehicles in our smart livery launched last February (2011), will offer greater comfort with leather seating, child buggy and wheel chair spaces with easy access for the infirm. There is also CCTV for security and an automated next stop announcement system.”
The new buses will be seen up to every 10 minutes Monday to Saturday, with Sunday and bank holiday services of up to every 20 minutes on the 43 service whose route passes by the new, recently opened regional leisure centre. There is a new single fare of £2 and a return fare of £3 with the reappearance of the all-day young person fare priced at £1.50 single and £2.50 return.
